The Houston Airport System (HAS) welcomes the opportunity to partner with our key stakeholders and community leaders.

Through our strategic community partnerships, the community relations department worked with community partners and shared strategies for meeting those needs.

STEM Collaboration with Aerospace Professionals – Aviation Career Education Academy Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP)

Perry Miller, General Manager of William P. Hobby Airport and Rhonda Arnold, HAS Director of Community Relations recently presented an overview of their careers to the students who participated in the academy at IAH.

The students participated in activities that feature STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) components. The Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academies co-sponsored this outreach with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other select aviation organizations or educational institutions.

Chamber Outreach Tri County Black Chamber of Commerce Procurement and Emerging Leaders’ Summit

The Procurement and Emerging Council of the Tri County Black Chamber of Commerce recently held an informational summit. The President of the Tri County Black Chamber of Commerce, Leondria Thompson, provided a networking event of procurement professionals to learn more about their industry. Gary C. Kelly, Chairman, President & CEO of Southwest Airlines was the Luncheon Keynote Speaker. HAS Director of Aviation, Mario Diaz, gave brief remarks and provided the introduction for Kelly. HAS Assistant Director of Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Justina Mann was one of the presenters and additionally the HAS-Office of Business Opportunity displayed more information at their exhibition table.  Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was the Honorary Chair of the Event.

Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce - Women in Business Roundtable

Community Relations Director, Rhonda Arnold attended the LATINA ROUNDTABLE that was sponsored by the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (HHCC). Dr. Laura Murillo, President and CEO of HHCC presented to the audience the importance of being prepared in today’s business market.

This outreach entitled: "Power Your Negocios(Business) with Powerful Answers" empowered community business leaders in the area of Technology. This Forum provided an interactive Powerful Answers workshop with provided knowledge to help the business leaders to connect their business through technology.

Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce - Powerful Women Business Forum

This community event focused on strategy, business development, leadership development, innovation, and community engagement. This annual forum of women business leaders provided informational panels and roundtable discussions regarding what it takes to sustain success at the top. Noted presenters were: Terry Basford - 4b Technology Group, Esther Francis - CBIC Construction & Development, Marie Guillot - ABACO International, Ann Hauser Laufman - MassMutual Greater Houston, Christina Lesher - Law Office of Christina Lesher, Marsha Murray - Murray Resources, and Maria Rios - Nation Waste Inc., Elaine Turner - Elaine Turner Designs LLC., Martha Turner - Martha Turner Properties. In Attendance:, Mrs. Carlecia Wright ,Director of the Office of Business Opportunity; Leondria Thompson, Presisdent of Tri- County Chamber of Commerce, Tandelyn Weaver, Executive Director of Kingdom Builders’ Center and Helen Callier of Bradlink.

Community Award - Supplier Diversity Champion Awards

The Houston Airport System was selected as a Supplier Diversity Champion honoree at the 2013 Top 25 Prime Contractors for Diversity & Supplier Diversity Champion Awards hosted by d-mars.com. The Top 25 Prime Contractors for Diversity & Supplier Diversity Awards celebrated the companies and agencies who work industriously to foster business growth in minority communities by supporting small business diversity initiatives. Lance Lyttle, HAS Chief Operating Officer, Justina Mann, Assistant Director of Procurement and Supply Chain Management and Jason McLemore, Deputy Assistant Director of HAS Office of Business Opportunity received the award on behalf of HAS. Other 2013 Supplier Diversity Champion honorees include the City of Houston Office of Business Opportunity, The Port of Houston Authority, Houston Independent School District (HISD), Texas Department of Criminal Justice, City of Houston, Houston Airport System, Texas Department of Transportation, Women Contractors Association, MD Anderson Cancer Center, The University of Texas Medical Branch, Houston Community College (HCC), The Principle Partnering Group, LLC, Houston Minority Supplier Diversity Council, METRO, National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC) and the City of Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering.
