Aeros & Autos Gears Up for the Fifth Year at Ellington Airport
Join the Houston Airport System at Ellington Airport (EFD) on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the fifth annual Aeros & Autos event presented by Texas Flying Legends Museum and Ellington Air Commerce Center. This family-friendly event brings the best of the transportation worlds, airplanes and automobiles, to Houston’s oldest airport. General admission is $5 per person and children ages three and under are free. Aeros & Autos has been able to donate approximately $100,000 to charity in its four-year run and hopes to donate even more in 2013, with donations benefiting the United Service Organizations (USO) and Texas Lions Camp.
“This is one of the most anticipated times of year at Ellington Airport that celebrates three events in one: a great car show, 30-plus Vintage War Bird displays and the Houston Half Mile,” said EFD General Manager Brian Rinehart. “People are drawn to Aeros & Autos because of the speed and power that are on display with these machines. They also take pride in the fact that their contributions are making life easier for our heroes in uniform and for local children in need.”
A popular attraction to Aeros & Autos is The Houston Half Mile Shootout, Houston’s premier speed event. The Houston Half Mile is open to all automobiles and motorcycles. It is located on one of Ellington’s runways and offers a safe and legal space to see how fast your vehicle can go in one half mile. Registration for the shootout must be made in advance at www.houstonmile.com.
Guests can participate in the car show for a chance to win multiple trophies. Registration for the car show is $30 and is due on the day of the show. Registration includes one admittance, goodie bag, 4x6 photo of your vehicle with a military aircraft and an event t-shirt.
Exciting displays from military organizations, Houston Police Department, Texas Flying Legends Museum, Collings Foundation, NASA, Lone Star Flight Museum, and many more will be available.
Aeros & Autos is still accepting sponsorships, as well as donations, with 100 percent of proceeds going to charity.
Vendor space at the event is still available as well with the chance to showcase products or services to a crowd in excess of 5,000.
The event takes place at Ellington Airport on property that is rarely accessed to the public, utilizing actual runways. The entrance to the event is off of Genoa Redbluff, on the north side of EFD.
