New nonstop air service from Southwest Airlines will arrive on April 14.
Southwest Airlines is launching two new flight options at Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) during the month of April. The low cost carrier begins nonstop service to Charlotte, North Carolina and to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 14.

Once the service is in place, Southwest Airlines will be the only airline at Hobby Airport offering nonstop flights to these particular destinations and a spokesperson for Southwest says another important advantage exists for the passengers aboard the flight bound for Pittsburgh.

"We're excited to offer the new daily nonstop service between Houston and Pittsburgh," Southwest spokeswoman Michelle Agnew says. “And our departure times allow for great connecting service to and from the east and west coast.”

Southwest Airlines enjoys the largest market share of any carrier operating at Hobby Airport and is the second busiest airline flying in and out of Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), behind only US Airways.

Southwest Airlines will launch nonstop flights to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). The daily nonstop will depart Houston just before noon at 11:45 a.m., arriving in North Carolina at 3:10 p.m.

With the addition of the PIT and CLT service, Southwest Airlines brings their passengers at Hobby Airport nonstop flight access to 41 different destinations and even more new service is set to arrive soon. Southwest Airlines will connect Hobby Airport with nonstop flight service to New York City’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA), beginning on June 2, 2013.

Passengers will have two daily flights from which to choose, with both morning and late afternoon departures available. In addition to this new nonstop flight, Southwest Airlines is also hoping to add Washington D.C.’s Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to its route map in Houston.

The airline has already asked the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for more landing rights at DCA and has publicly indicated that the additional “slots” would be used for flights traveling to and from Houston’s Hobby Airport.

"Houston is one of Southwest Airlines' three original cities, and this proposed new service is another example of our strong commitment to continue adding value to the community," said Southwest CEO Gary Kelly.

A final decision on the awarding of DCA landing rights is still pending with the DOT.
