The "A380 Houston Party" offered both a great view of the aircraft landing and a chance to win free airline tickets.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) attracted 300 guests to watch the world's largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, make its inaugural landing on a runway in Texas.

The Houston Airport System and Lufthansa partnered together to host the front-row welcoming party.

"Houston is already known around the world as a premiere global gateway and that standing within the aviation industry is now even stronger, thanks to the arrival of the A380 aircraft” says Saba Abashawl, chief external affairs officer for the Houston Airport System. “People are celebrating both the aircraft itself and what it means to the city of Houston, as the A380 is capable of transferring more than 500 people between continents every time it lifts off.”

Guests were equipped with binoculars, gifts from the Houston Airport System and Lufthansa, to get a better view of the aircraft flying in.

Flight 441 made its Texas debut at 1:37 p.m. on August 1, 2012 and the 300 plus attendees at the "A380 Houston Party" had a front row seat of the runway that the A380 landed on.

While guests waited for the A380's arrival, the party featured live entertainment from the Das Ist Lustig Band.

A380 Party Contests

Lederhosen Costume Contest:  Guests were invited to dress in traditional German Lederhosen costumes for a chance to win prizes.  The audience selected the best dressed winners, which were Andrea Meckna and Harvey Newton.  Both won gift certificates from Rudi Lechners German Restaurant and Bar.

Luggage Packing Contest:  With help from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), contestants were challenged to pack the "luggage packing contest" suitcases while being judged to determine not only who was the "fastest" packer, but also the "best."  The contest rules stated that each used special checkpoint test suitcase included three prophibited items and two questionable items.  The contest judges, local officials with the TSA, carefully watched to select the winners as follows:

Adriana Barragan - Grand prize winner of free trip to Frankfurt, Germany for two on the A380, courtesy of Lufthansa.
Christina Selecman - Second place, winner of a weekend at the Sheraton Suites Houston, near the Galleria.
Angel Enriquez - Third place and winner of a dinner voucher to Bistro Le Cep.

Yodeling Contest - With help from Valina, from the Das Ist Lustig Band, contestants were asked to yodel the best they could.  And, boy did they try!  The audience judged with their applause and they all decided the winners as follows:

Andrew Meckna - Grand prize winner of the free trip to Frankfurt, Germany for two on the A380, courtesy of Lufthansa.
Peggie Ney - Second place, winner of a weekend stay at the Crowne Plaza Houston Downtown.
Leah Linares - Third place, winner of a weekend stay at the Hilton Houston North.
