New Flights Coming from Southwest
Houston is playing a key role in the future plans of Southwest Airlines as it continues to blend route schedules with the recently purchased AirTran Airways. In June 2012, Southwest Airlines is adding non-stop flights from Houston's William P. Hobby Airport to three new markets: Raleigh-Durham, NC; Kansas City, MO and Seattle, WA.

United and Continental Celebrate Latest Milestone
United Continental Holdings, Inc. announced on November 30 that it had received Federal Aviation Administration approval for a single operating certificate, marking another significant achievement in the integration of United Airlines and Continental Airlines.

American Airlines Files for Bankruptcy
AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines and American Eagle, filed voluntary petitions for bankruptcy protection on November 29, 2011 in order to achieve a cost and debt structure that is industry competitive. American Airlines currently has 22 daily departures out of George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby Airports.

Houston is Site for First Commercial Biofuel Flight in U.S.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport once again provided the backdrop for a major advancement in the use of eco-friendly fuel sources, as United Airlines operated the first commercial flight powered by advanced biofuels.

United Airlines Inaugurates Houston-Lagos Flights
United Continental Holdings, Inc. inaugurated the first daily scheduled passenger service between Texas and Africa on November 16, with new non-stop flights between Houston and Lagos, Nigeria. The service links the two energy capitals on a route which no other airline currently serves.

Google Maps Lands at Houston Airports
The Houston Airport System announces a partnership with Google Maps that brings new functionality inside five terminals at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, as well as William P. Hobby Airport. The partnership is allowing users of Android devices to view the terminal floor plans to locate gates, retail shops, dining options and other amenities.
