Houston Gains More Than 60 New flights in 2011
Continued growth in passenger traffic is becoming the norm at both George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby Airports. The latest news has Continental/United Airlines and Southwest Airlines adding new service, with a combined 67 new flights to destinations across the United States in 2011.


AirTran Airways Offers Non-Stop to Branson
AirTran Airways is launching non-stop service between William P. Hobby Airport and Branson, Missouri. The airline says the move is in response to increased demand for access to the city known as the live music show capital of the world.


Continental Adds Non-stop Service to Reno-Tahoe
Continental Airlines is now making it easier than ever to hit both the ski slopes and the slot machines, with a new non-stop flight to Reno, Nevada. The new daily service was launched on February 17, with a little help from a well-known Olympic athlete.

Southwest Airlines Grows Pilot Program
Navigational procedures, initially unveiled by Southwest Airlines in Houston, are expanding to additional airports across the country. Southwest Airlines recently announced that the technology and techniques that were studied in flights between Houston and Dallas by Southwest pilots are operating in eleven additional airports located across the country.

Green Shuttle Buses at Bush Airport
New eco-friendly shuttle buses will soon be operating at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Custom paint jobs and other finishing touches are currently being applied to more than two dozen buses, each of them capable of running on clean natural gas rather than the commonly used diesel fuel.



On Your Mark...Get Set...Bark and Run
The Houston Airport System is once again teaming up with the Houston SPCA for the one-of-a kind event known as the Mutt Strut & Runway Race. The entire course is 3.1 miles with plenty of fun family activities including a What-a-Mutt dog personality contest, giveaways and a live band.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport earned a new title as the seventh busiest airport in the United States. This news comes from 2010 traffic data published by Airline Network News and Analysis.


On-time Departures Shine in Houston
George Bush Intercontinental Airport recorded a greater percentage of flights departing on-time in January than any other major airport operating in North America. With a rate of 82 percent, Bush Intercontinental is the only large-market North American facility to make the global list of top ten airports for on-time departures in the first month of the year.
