The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo draws thousands of guests each year.
2010 is promising to be a very busy and exciting year at all three airport facilities within the Houston Airport System (HAS). Various events are slated to take place at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and Ellington Airport (EFD).

Below is a list of some fan-favorite events that will take place in the coming year, along with a description of what each event offers its guests. Enjoy, and hope to see you there!

February 27: “Hobby Fest” - You’re invited to William P. Hobby Airport to enjoy Hobby Fest as hundreds of aviation enthusiasts gather at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum on Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This daylong event at the end of February is a joint effort with the Greater Hobby Area Chamber of Commerce, Southwest Airlines, FlightSafety International, Gulfway Hobby Airport Rotary Club, Million Air, Houston Aeronautical Heritage Society and the Houston Airport System (HAS).

March 2-21: Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo – The world’s largest livestock exhibition is riding into the Bayou City from March 2 through March 21. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will be held at Reliant Park. More than 21,000 volunteers on nearly 100 committees will rope in the nearly 2-million visitors. You can be a real cowboy or cowgirl when you take a picture near our rodeo exhibit in the main terminal at William P. Hobby Airport.

March 6: “Mutt Strut & Runway Race” – It’s that time for runners, walkers and their dogs to join forces with the Houston Airport System in order to raise money for the prevention of cruelty to animals. In 2009, during our Mutt Strut & Runway race, we raised more than $300,000 in cash and in-kind donations. The event takes place at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and gates open at 6 a.m. for registration.

March 27: “IAH Appreciation Festival” – For the young and old alike, the sound of a plane engine ready for takeoff on an active runway somehow makes your heart beat a little faster. It’s this desire to be near an airport that is expected to draw hundreds to the IAH Airport Festival on Saturday, March 27. We’ll see you from noon to 4 p.m. at the Continental Airlines hangar known as “Building B” at 4365 Wright Road. The Airport Festival, organized by the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, has been a local tradition for 27 years.

May 8: “Aeros and Autos” – For horsepower enthusiasts, it’s a dream come true. The 2010 Aeros & Autos event will be held at Ellington Airport on Saturday, May 8. It gives both pilots and drivers a chance to flex some serious muscle. An aviation fan says it feels like you’re walking on to the set of an action movie. You have jets, vintage cars, hot rods, low riders and everything in-between. You can also see an aircraft from the twenties or thirties sitting right next to a modern day jet. Expect music, delicious food and plenty of activities for the kids.
