Houston is one of only four cities chosen by Southwest for the new service to Panama City
New and expanded air service continues to arrive in Houston as Southwest Airlines expands their 2010 flight schedule.

The number one airline, based on capacity at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), is launching new service between Houston and Panama City, Florida, and is increasing the number of nonstop frequencies connecting Houston and Denver.

"Overall, we had a record level of traffic for a fourth quarter, so we're delighted all the way around," said Southwest Airlines' Chairman, President and CEO Gary Kelly. "At this point we have strong bookings in place for February, March and April, so we're very pleased with the trends that we're seeing."

Starting June 13, Southwest will be operating four daily flights to Denver, as opposed to three.

Southwest Airlines is launching nonstop service between Hobby Airport and Panama City – Bay County International Airport (ECP) on May 23.

Southwest Airlines will be operating out of ECP for the first time in 2010, launching nonstop service between Panama City and four cities, including Houston.

“We have been eyeing this region for a long time,” said Southwest Airlines vice president of properties Bob Montgomery. “And we’ve been extremely impressed by the amount of passion the community has put behind bringing Southwest Airlines to their hometown.”

Houston was one of the three original cities serviced by Southwest when the airline was first created back in 1971.

"We are very pleased that Southwest Airlines is adding Panama City to the non-stop destinations served from Hobby Airport," says Rob Wigington, deputy director of marketing, communications and community affairs. "This new service brings the total number of nonstop destinations travelers can enjoy from Hobby Airport to 33."

And the recent 2010 schedule announcement from Southwest confirmed that the airlines’ partnership with Houston is as strong as it has ever been.

In addition to the two daily frequencies to Panama City, the HOU operation also gained one frequency to Orlando (bringing the daily total to five) and one daily frequency to St. Louis (bringing the daily total to four).
