The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo draws an estimated crowd of 1.8 million
Over a million people attend the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) each year. Transporting the masses are Houston’s airports, which served more than 48 million passengers in 2009.

“As with numerous major events the city of Houston hosts, our airport employees focus on ensuring that all travelers experience smooth and seamless transitions through our airport terminals,” says Zeljka Momirovic, customer relations and special services program manager.

As the rodeo approaches, our airports will be welcoming, assisting and greeting our travelers from the terminals to curbsides in celebration of this great Houston, Texas-style event.

Plenty of cowboys and cowgirls will be at both George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) and William P. Hobby (HOU) Airports, as they don cowboy hats and official HLSR pins throughout the terminals. Airport employees will also be distributing the HLSR pins to passengers and guests at the airports.

It is billed as the richest regular-season rodeo in the world and brings in nearly $345 million in positive economic impact to the city each year. Plus, it draws thousands of visitors from across the globe.

In 2009, the 26,285 livestock competitions and horse show entries made the Houston Livestock Show the largest in the world.

In addition, the general attendance at HLSR was 1,890,332, an all-time grounds record attendance, which makes HLSR the third largest fair or festival in North America.

Of those attendees, the HLSR hosted 1,826 international guests from more than 94 countries. Playing a major role in rounding up these visitors for the rodeo is the Houston Airport System (HAS).

Bush Intercontinental and Hobby airports - HAS’ two commercial airports - provide access to the city from more than 115 domestic and almost 70 international destinations.

Last year, more than 7.8 million international travelers passed through George Bush Intercontinental Airport. This year, rodeo time will run from Tuesday, March 2 through Sunday, March 21, at Reliant Stadium and the artists scheduled to perform include the Black Eyed Peas, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, the Jonas Brothers, among many others.
