The Parking Cents lot will offer a total of 922 covered parking spaces

Parking Cents, the official on-airport value lot at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), will soon be offering an exciting new customer feature….covered parking!

Almost a thousand covered spaces at the economy parking lot are slated to open up to the traveling public in early July, 2010.

Parking Cents, a remote parking service which utilizes the airport’s largest fleet of shuttle buses to carry passengers to all five IAH terminal facilities, is located at 16152 John F. Kennedy

With the covered spaces in place, passengers can now enjoy the best of both worlds, saving money with a discount parking rate, and the comfort of knowing that their vehicle is sheltered from the elements during their time away.

“This is going to make an attractive parking option look even better to passengers in the future,” said Walt Gray, general manager at New South Parking. “The customers at Parking Cents were already pleased with the price and the convenience, now we’ve made that experience even better.”

The improvements began taking shape in early May, when construction crews started installing welded steel frames with sheet metal roofing along the southwest corner of the Parking Cents operation.

More than 920 parking spaces had to be covered and the work was to be performed while the rest of the lot remained in full operation.

Thanks to a tremendous amount of preparation and cooperation, the work was carried out without any impact to the traveling public and within a matter of weeks the work was complete.

Once open, passengers can enjoy the covered parking option for the discount rate of just $6 per day, while a special promotional offer is also lowering the rate for uncovered parking to only $5 per day. The special offers will run at least through August 31, 2010.

The upgrade at Parking Cents represents the latest step in an overall program designed to expand the number of parking choices at IAH. This program includes the construction of the Terminal A/B Garage which added 5,600 spaces, and in 2005, the Terminal E garage brought an additional 2,500 spaces to the IAH inventory.

This focus on ensuring availability means that IAH now offers more than 25-thousand spaces, located at various facilities across the complex.

“Airport parking is a very fluid and dynamic part of the overall operation,” says Gray. “You’re constantly evaluating the supply and demand, and you’re constantly looking for new options to bring to your customers.”

Covered parking spaces in the Parking Cents lot are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. These spaces cannot be reserved prior to arrival.
