Singapore Airlines has seen remarkable success at George Bush Intercontinental Airport

For the second time this year, Singapore Airlines is expanding its schedule in regards to the direct service available between Singapore and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

Singapore Airlines is currently offering five flights per week between the two cities, but on October 31, 2010, the operation will be expanded to accommodate daily service, with flights arriving and departing Monday through Sunday.

The route, which offers passengers non-stop service to Moscow with continuing service to Singapore, will keep the daily schedule in place until at least March 26, 2011.

“The partnership between Singapore Airlines and the Houston market has been incredibly successful,” says Genaro Peña, director of air service development for the Houston Airport System (HAS). “When the service was first launched, we were confident that it would succeed but the passenger totals so far have truly exceeded our expectations.”

The non-stop flight was inaugurated in 2008 and since that time, has enjoyed a steady increase in the number of passengers taking advantage of the service.

At the time of the launch, Singapore Airlines’ executive vice president Huang Cheng Eng said there was definitely reason to feel confident about chances for success. “Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States, and a key energy center,” Huang said. “Its strategic location on the Gulf Coast makes it an ideal gateway for the Southern USA to Singapore and Southeast Asia.”

The emergence and success of Singapore Airlines has certainly helped the international passenger totals at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

When compared to the first six months of last year, 2010 has brought about an 8.6 percent increase in the total number of international passengers.

The Singapore Airlines service is certainly a contributing factor in that increase, especially since the route features the Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, which is capable of accommodating 278 passengers.
