Aeros & Autos Take the Field at Ellington Airport

May 7, 2010

Power and pride will be on display at Ellington Airport (EFD), for the Aeros & Autos showcase, hosted by the Houston Airport System (HAS), on Saturday, May 8, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Hundreds of cars and dozens of aircraft will crowd the airport grounds, at 11602 Aerospace, during the family-friendly event that benefits the Texas Lions Camp, for physically disabled and diabetic children, and the United Service Organization (USO), which provides support and activities around the world, for active and retired service members and their families.

“Ellington Airport is a prized piece of the Houston Airport System and has served hundreds of thousands of people over more than nine decades, so we are very pleased that this event, not only raises money to help people, but also allows the community to stay involved with this aviation icon,” said Mario Diaz, director of the Houston Airport System.

Highlights of the Aeros & Autos experience include an antique car show, and a “Low-Rider” and “Hot-Rod” automobile show, that has already attracted hundreds of local enthusiasts. A collection of classic and state-of-the-art aircraft will complement the auto display. In addition, visitors will be able to get a look at rarely seen aircraft, like the Apache helicopter and B-17 bombers, along with displays by the Houston Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard, NASA, Commemorative Air Force, and more.

“People are really excited about what we’ve put together out here because it reflects so many of the interests in the community, which is made up of quite a number of service men and woman, their families, along with NASA, and various frontline emergency responders,” says Brian Rinehart, airport manager for Ellington Airport.

People have been quick to sign on as sponsors, while tens of thousands of dollars worth of prizes and services have been donated. Aeros and Autos will also feature gift drawings for hundreds of items – among them – Dynamo Soccer tickets, flying lessons, sports memorabilia and Houston Raceway Park passes.
