Ben Woitena received a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Texas at Austin and a master of fine arts from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

He was head of the sculpture department at the Glassell School of Art, Houston, Texas from 1971 through 1998. Ben has participated consistently in gallery, museum, municipal, and public art venues since the 1970s.

In 1988, he designed, fabricated, and installed the Jack Kerouac Commemorative in Eastern Canal Park in Lowell, Massachusetts, which received international acclaim as the first national commemorative emphasizing literary works of an author, rather than figural representation.

His sculptures are in numerous private, corporate, and municipal collections including the Amarillo, Beaumont, El Paso, Houston, San Antonio, and Tyler museums of art.
