Light Wings

Location: north concourse atrium of Terminal A at George Bush Intercontinental Airport

Light Wings by Ed Carpenter is laminated diachronic glass, glass prisms and stainless steel. Its dimensions are 78 feet by 40 feet by 15 feet.

Like luminous wings of a bird or an exotic flying ship, the sculpture plays beneath the skylight. In daylight, it projects the sun’s rays in colored swaths onto the floor and reflects moving images over the ceiling and walls.

From different vantage points, various compositions reveal themselves, offering new views as travelers move through the airport. Each visit produces fresh experiences depending on the time of day and year.
