Double-digit growth for HAS across the board
At the Houston Airport System (HAS), both passenger and air cargo traffic for the month of September soared into double-digit growth.
Just nine months into the current year, the airport system’s total passenger count at George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports combined was up by 2.6 million – a significant year-over-year increase of 7.2 percent. The month of September alone registered a 15.8 percent increase in total passenger counts.
Bush Intercontinental’s total passenger traffic was up by 16.5 percent; while Hobby’s passenger counts were up 12.4 percent, for the same month, in comparison to the same timeframe in 2005.
Total international air cargo traffic for the month was also up by an impressive 31 percent, year-over-year. Accounting for this growth: significant increases in air cargo shipments to and from Central and South America (+ 47.1 percent for the month of September, year-over-year); Asia, Africa and Australia (+ 45.4 percent); and Europe (+ 33.1 percent).
Among the top-performing cargo airlines for the month were Saudi Arabian Airlines (up 281.1 percent, year-over-year for the month of September); Air France (+ 102.6 percent); World Airways (+ 99.3 percent); and Pakistan International Airlines (+ 58.6 percent).
Passenger airlines with equally impressive year-over-year increases for the month included Air France (+ 71.5 percent); Continental Airlines’ service to an d from Central and South America (+ 33.3 percent); AeroMexico (+ 22.8 percent); and Southwest Airlines (+ 20.7 percent).
