William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) is a rocking spot these days, offering travelers a place to rest and relax in dozens of new rocking chairs.
The new area, which includes 29 environmentally friendly rocking chairs made of 100 percent recycled plastic, is fast becoming a popular destination for passengers waiting to be picked up after a flight or those waiting for arrivals. Passengers can either rock solo in stand-alone chairs or they can pair up in the five double rocking chairs at the landing.
“It’s all about customer service and making the airport experience as stress-free as possible,” says Mary Case, airport manager at Hobby. “We wanted to add some charm and quaintness to the arrivals area and we thought instead of putting in the usual benches we would add ceiling fans and rocking chairs to create that atmosphere.”
The area is part of Hobby’s green initiative program which is an effort to make the airport more environmentally sensitive. Hobby also offers a one mile wellness trail and a “Livable Forest,” that includes some of the 2,007 trees planted in the area as a gift from a traveler whose life was saved by airport employees.
Hobby features award winning customer service and is one of the top five performing airports in the world, according to Airports Council International (ACI), the leading organization representing airports around the globe.
