  IAH is ready for the Airbus A380
For years Bush Intercontinental Airport has been accommodating the Antonov 225 – now the airport is ready for the Airbus A380. Air France has scheduled a flight from Paris to Mexico City in the near future. Under certain circumstances such as bad weather or an emergency in flight, the A380 would land at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental. The A380 weighs in at 1.3 million pounds, the same as the Antonov 225. It has a shorter length of 240 feet and a smaller wing span of 262 feet. Read Story

Get ready; we turned up the heat for this edition of Houston Airports Today. We will give you an inside look at IAH, the first Model Port in the nation. In Houston, Model Port hopes to set the standard for the rest of the nation
George Bush Intercontinental Airport, already a standard-bearer for international travel, is now the nation’s first Model Port thanks to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The program, designed to promote a better travel experience and ease the processing of passengers visiting the United States, includes; improved signage, an explanatory video in four languages and modernized procedures. More flights and passengers at Houston’s airports
Planes, planes and more planes are flying into Houston’s airports. According to the latest traffic statistics for the month of February, more passengers and air cargo are also arriving and departing from the Houston Airport System. George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports have already served 7.8 million passengers in the first two months of this New Year. Aircraft operations at the joint-use civil/military airport, Ellington Field registered an increase of 27 percent for the month of February 2007. Read Story

International air service at Bush set to expand
George Bush Intercontinental Airport is gearing up for increased international air service to Europe. With the recent approval of the open skies agreement between the United States and the European Union, IAH is poised to expand the number of destinations it serves in this region of the world. The agreement allows expanded services for US airlines to European destinations and possible expansion for European airlines to the US market. One of the jewels in this agreement is the access now granted to US carriers into London’s Heathrow Airport. Read Story 

Southwest Airlines makes a calculated move 
Passengers of the airline traveling through William P. Hobby Airport, this week, were met with somewhat of a surprise. After checking-in and dropping off their baggage they were no longer asked to head into the familiar Concourse A. Instead they were directed to the more modern, newly-completed Central Concourse. With this move the airline is joining the rest of their operations at the Central Concourse. Read Story

Born at Ellington Field, the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church is still saving souls today
Go. Find. Seek. And do. At 78 year of age, Alma Houston has lived a lifetime spreading the “Lord’s good word.” Calm and collected, she is among the most respected elders at her church – the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Southeast Houston. When she speaks, with that old-fashioned flare and authority, people just have a tendency to want sit down and listen. Most of the time her words are about the scripture, but every now and again they shift and tell the tale of a religious society deeply embedded in the heart of Houston. Read Story

Bringing bargains to the airports
She travels the world in search of bargains. Like many of her globe-trekking predecessors – Carmen Sandiego and Where’s Waldo, just to name a few – Sue Venir is best known for her mysterious persona and unforgiving travel agenda. The main difference between Sue and the rest of these fictional characters, however, is that she brings savings to the bottomline of travelers at George Bush intercontinental Airport. Read Story 

A sea of lights keeps passengers and aircraft safe at IAH 
There are more than 13,000 light fixtures blinking and twinkling on the airfield at Bush Intercontinental Airport, including a special set numbering, from 9,000 to10,000, which are specifically designed to keep the airport running safely and smoothly during the foggiest days. They are part of a procedure known as the Surface Movement Guidance Control System (SMGCS). The system is activated when visibility drops below 1,200 feet, about a fourth of a mile. Read Story

Hobby keeps passengers coming back
Some consider it a part of the family. Others find the charm of Houston’s second-largest airport an irresistible attraction to the world of aviation. Whatever the reason, the eight decade old airport seems to be doing something right. Last year, it served more than 8.5 million passengers. Many of those passengers are longtime frequent fliers like Ralph Joffrion. The Houston businessman has been flying in an out of William P. Hobby Airport since the days when check-ins consisted of stating ones name into a voice recorder. Read Story

Wilson Air Center hosts “Timeless Voices of Aviation”
The legendary Robert A. “Bob” Hoover spent an evening with aviation fans at Wilson Air Center - William P. Hobby Airport’s newest fixed base operator. Wilson Air Center’s Founder and President, Robert A. “Bob” Wilson was delighted to have his friend Bob Hoover speak for friends and customers. “I think he is one of the true aviators we will ever see in our lives,” said Wilson. “It’s a pleasure to host such a momentous event.” Read Story 

Birds of a different flock  
A starlet in its own right, the B-24 Liberator can rip through the skies at speeds of up to 290 miles per hour. Packed with 10 high-powered machine guns, the four engine heavy bomber has a track record of dealing with tough situations. During World War II it dropped over 630,000 tons of bombs over enemy targets, making a name for itself as one of the most ferocious aircraft in the world. Its primary targets were Europe and the Pacific, where the 68 year old aircraft earned its military record. Read Story

Future projects give minority businesses a better chance for success
On Valentine’s Day in 1996, Gregg Reyes and his wife, Becky decided to start their own business. What started out as a two-member team 11 years ago is now a successful minority-owned business with 150 employees. That total includes Gregg, the president of Reytech Construction Resources, Inc. and Becky who serves as the chief financial officer. Reytech, like many minority-owned businesses was invited to participate in a project known as the Airport Proximity to Opportunity Forum, co-hosted by Houston City Councilmember Jarvis Johnson.
