More flights and passengers at Houston’s airports

Planes, planes and more planes are flying into Houston’s airports. According to the latest traffic statistics for the month of February, more passengers and air cargo are also arriving and departing from the Houston Airport System.

George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports have already served 7.8 million passengers in the first two months of this New Year. Aircraft operations at the joint-use civil/military airport, Ellington Field registered an increase of 27 percent for the month of February 2007.

Total international freight poundage maintained a steady growth rate of 3 percent, through the same month, year-to-date.

Passenger and air-cargo airlines are also seeing their traffic numbers to and from Houston increase significantly.

Among the top-performing cargo airlines were Saudi Arabian Airlines, which at the end of last year added a second weekly flight to Saudi Arabia, with a 119 percent year-over-year increase for the month of February and Cargolux, with a 14.4 percent increase.

Some of the top-performing passenger airlines for the month include Aeromexico, with a 46 percent year-over-year increase; Lufthansa, with an increase of 21 percent; Aviacsa, with an increase of 14 percent; and Air France with an increase of 10 percent.
