Southwest Airlines, William P. Hobby Airport’s (HOU) largest carrier, is introducing their new pet policy, allowing customers to bring along small cats and dogs in the aircraft and giving pets to have the “Freedom to Fly.”
Hobby Airport manager, Mary Case, welcomes customers and their pets to fly in and out of HOU.
“We are always looking for new ways to improve customer service at Hobby,” says Case. “We welcome all customers and their pets to Hobby and support Southwest’s new pet policy and other programs they implement.”
The airline is charging a special low “pet fare” of only $75 each way and Carrie Miller, Houstonian and pet lover, is super excited about Southwest Airlines’ announcement that she’s telling everyone she knows.
“The last time I flew with my daschund, Max, another airline charged me more to have him fly with me, than what I paid for my actual plane ticket,” says Miller. “As soon as I heard the news, I passed it on to all of my family and friends. I will definitely fly Southwest Airlines when I take Max with me in the future.”
All pets must be in a carrier that fits under the airplane seat and the carrier will count as the passenger’s carryon bag.
“These new programs and processes are just the starting point with additional initiatives planned for later this year,” says Southwest Airlines chairman, president and CEO Gary Kelly. “It is always our goal to be upfront with our customers and to set the right customer expectations. Our changes today associate a change for items that are truly an extra service.”
For passengers planning on traveling with their small pets, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will ask you to remove your pet from its carrier and walk through the metal detector with you.
Also note, Hobby Airport has designated “Pet Relief” areas outside of the main terminal door that can be found by following the yellow pet relief signs.
Customers can begin purchasing tickets for their small cats and dogs this month for travel beginning on June 17. |
