Flights available to Rio everyday at IAH

Continental Airlines recently introduced a direct and convenient flight that will connect two major oil partners all year around.

The daily flight between Houston and Rio de Janeiro will be the carrier’s first year-round nonstop service to Rio de Janeiro, as well as the only year-round nonstop flight to that city from the central or western United States.

“Continental is delighted to receive tentative authority for this route, which links two important energy markets,” said Jeff Smisek, Continental’s president and chief operating officer.

Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in South America with a population that is formulated with a compilation of various ethnic groups. Being on the South Atlantic Coast, it has breath taking views and offers a relaxed beach culture surrounded with some of the worlds most beautiful people.

Passengers traveling for business or leisure are extremely delighted with the airline’s decision to introduce this nonstop route.

The proposed flight will offer convenient flight connections throughout the U.S, Canada, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Continental says it is responding to the needs of its corporate customers in launching the new Rio nonstop which will bring both major oil markets closer together.

Houston will be connected to Brazil more conveniently with the new service from Continental. 

"This new service will also provide easier access to one of the most exciting tourist destinations in the world,” says John Slater, Continental’s Latin American managing director.

Continental proceeds to operate the daily service using a Boeing 767-200 aircraft, with 25 seats in BusinessFirst and 149 seats in economy.

Continental Airlines is the world’s fifth largest airline carrying over 2,800 daily departures within the America’s, 135 domestic, and 132 international flights. Continental consistently earns recognition for their corporate culture and their outstanding operations, being one of the most admired airlines in the world.

Fun facts about Rio de Janeiro:

• Between 1960 and 1975 Rio was a capital city under the name State of Guanabara (after the bay it borders).
• The neighborhood of Copacabana beach hosts one of the world's most spectacular New Year's Eve parties.
• There is a mountain located in Rio called Sugarloaf Mountain ('Pão de Açúcar') is a famous mountain rising out of the sea.
• Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão – Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport is named Antônio Carlos Jobim after a famous Brazilian local musician.
• The official song of Rio is "Cidade Maravilhosa" (translated as "Marvelous City").
