On Saturday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. aircraft buffs and car show aficionados can visit the Aeros & Autos at Ellington Airport.

In addition to impressive static aircraft displays, the special event will feature hot rods, rare cars, big block engines and low riders. Folks can enjoy displays from organizations including the United States Coast Guard, NASA, Collings Foundation, the Commemorative Air Force and the Houston Police Department.

“We take phenomenal pride in our airport,” says Brian Rinehart, Ellington airport manager, “we have a dedicated staff and lots of volunteers.”

The cost is $5 per person and children under age 3 may attend at no cost. The event offers opportunities for giveaways, food, rock wall climbing, live entertainment performed by a band and a silent auction.

Event Causes

While festival-goers are admiring the cars, planes, and enjoying helicopter rides, they’ll also help raise funds for two charities—the Texas Lions Camp and Helping a Hero.

• Texas Lions Camp

Texas Lions Camp is a residential camping facility for children with physical disabilities, type 1 diabetes and cancer. It’s located on over 500 acres in the beautiful Texas Hill Country and is designed to introduce the "Can Do" philosophy to children dealing with special medical conditions. “Through dedicated and generous efforts of donors like the Houston Airport System’s Aeros & Autos Event, the Texas Lions Camp is able to provide this program at no charge to the children and their families,” says Trish Wilson, Development Director.

• Helping a Hero

Ellington Airport is a natural fit for the charity Helping a Hero which provides support for military personnel severely injured in the war on terror. “HelpingaHero.org is very grateful to Houston Airport System's commitment to raising funds for our efforts to build specially adapted homes for our severely wounded heroes,” says Meredith Iler, chairman of HelpingaHero Home Program.
