March 13, 2009

The premiere government contracting event of the year for small, minority, women-owned and disadvantaged businesses is right around the corner. This conference provides a great forum for government agencies, corporations and small businesses to discuss potential business relationships. Participants at Government Procurement Connections will have the opportunity to meet with more than 200 City, County, State and Federal representatives involved in purchasing, construction, and professional services contracting. This year’s event will also include METRO.

Representatives from banks and other organizations committed to assisting Small and Minority, Women, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (S/MWDBE) firms will also be represented during the Contracting Fair. In addition, some governmental agencies and private sector firms will award contracts “on the spot.”

“As a small business owner I can say that without GPC we would not be a major supplier to the City of Houston,” says Ron McFarlane, 2009 Chairman of the conference and President of eBusiness1. “I can literally connect the dots from a GPC IT Forum in 2006 to now having contracts with 5 major departments in the City.” McFarlane has been participating in the GPC for seven years. His company provides IT Monitoring Solutions for large scale environments that need to better manage their servers, network and applications.

The Houston Airport System is a proud sponsor the conference which takes place on Wednesday, April 22, and Thursday, April 23, at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

“Government Procurement Connection has been for the last 10 years of my involvement a one stop shop for business owners to get connected and build relationships with decision makers in the corporate and governmental contracting world,” says J. Goodwille Pierre, Manager of Small Business Development and Contract Compliance at the Houston Airport System. “I have personally witnessed over 100 success stories directly as a result of businesses involvement with GPC.”

Dynamic speakers will present informational seminars geared toward educating participants about the responsibilities of owning and operating a business, and other timely topics. A “Green” kickoff event highlighting sustainability, recycled products, efficient processes and green businesses is planned at Discovery Green Park downtown. A special focus of the conference will be “What does the Economic Stimulus Plan Means to You.” Another highlight of the day is the awards luncheon, which recognizes outstanding contributions to S/MWDBE development. Tickets to the luncheon are available for $60 per person. Visit www.houstongpc.org to register.
