Today, Houston City Council approved a shared-ride van services concession agreement with Adams Systems, LLC dba SuperShuttle to provide ground transportation services at George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) and William P. Hobby (HOU) airports. This is the first time that the shared-ride van services concept is available to Houston travelers.
SuperShuttle will soon take reservations and pick-up travelers at their homes or businesses and transport them to the airport and vice versa. Door-to-door shared-ride differs from traditional taxi service in that more than one traveler will be picked-up along the way, and differs from traditional shuttles by not running along a fixed route. The fares for the new service are approximately half of what a taxicab costs.
“The availability of shared-ride now brings Houston in line with all major U.S. cities and airports that already have this airport transportation option,” said Rick Vacar, director of HAS. “It also has the added benefit of reducing the amount of vehicular traffic at our terminals – decreasing congestion and emissions.”
This new service has strong support from the Hotel & Lodging Association of Greater Houston, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Greater Houston Partnership and airlines serving the Houston Airport System.
