HAS invites you to join the Jet Set, come race with the planes
August 28, 2006

Security rules require you to take off your shoes at the airport. On Saturday September 9, 2006, however, you can slip into some athletic shoes and run with the airplanes at the sixth annual Runway Race for Life.

Sponsored by the Houston Airport System (HAS), the 2006 Runway Race for Life will benefit the American Cancer Society.

You’ll be cleared for take-off on the tarmac where we’ll gather at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) for the 5k race which begins at 7:00 a.m. The event area will be clear of planes for four hours so folks can run the certified course, or just walk, wheel or stroll.

This year’s fundraiser will recognize a recent breakthrough in cancer research by honoring the American Cancer Society. For the first time, the number of cancer deaths has actually decreased, but the battle for a cure continues.

All proceeds raised by the 2006 Runway Race for Life will be donated to this important research organization.

“With more than 40 million passengers from around the world, last year alone, IAH is a perfect place to spread the word and the Runway Race for Life is the ideal opportunity for people to see just how vital the airport system is to local communities,” said Richard Vacar, director of the Houston Airport System.

All participants can join the fun, including food, prizes and music. A host of adventurers including, Continental Airlines and Gallery Furniture are already joining us. Sponsorships are still available for this unique event. For details visit www.fly2houston.com ; or sign up at the event website www.runwayrace4life.com .
