It’s an honor to be chosen as the location for the elaborate spring photo shoot... and by the way, we snagged the cover as well.
The massive undertaking consisted of a large crew and lots of equipment to pull off a flawless photo shoot at a not so common location – George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).
002houston magazine has been making its mark in Houston for about 10 years. It highlights the hottest fashions, tantalizing food and great places to go in the city.
The magazine’s managing editor, Carla Valencia and her crew found just the right locations at Houston’s largest airport to tell this spring’s travel and fashion story.
“What makes shooting at the airport really cool is that you have so many settings, “said Valencia. “The scenes can naturally progress into a storyline. With so many different angles… escalator shots from high above… an artsy baggage claim area… the choices are endless.”
Most passengers don’t get the chance to take tours around the massive airport, so they will see the airport for the first time in 002houston magazine’s March issue.
“For this issue we wanted to have an international feel and highlight clothes with lots of bright, happy, hopeful colors,” says Beatrice Valencia, assistant editor. “We’re in a period of change, everyone is looking to yellow for optimism.”
There is a method to the photo madness; it starts with an inspiration board which connects the locations, clothes, jewelry and themes.
As they headed from location to location, art director, Alex Rosa said, “We look for textures, light, composition, message and a specific image.”
In the baggage claim area in Terminal E, it’s about the eye-catching art. The photo was centered on the lighted luggage art piece known as Travel Light by the Art Guys and colorful circles known as One Bounce, Two Bounce by Sandra Fiedorek. |
