Find the one you love and don’t let them go.
Rob and Trey Gentry and Jennifer and Michael Sutton don’t pretend to know everything about love, but they do consider themselves quite lucky when it comes to matters of the heart. After all, they have been living fairy tale love stories ever since they first met at Hobby Airport.
Both couples are Southwest Airlines employees and have found their one true love in the workplace. It wasn’t something any of them planned, but they all confess it is the best job perk they’ve ever encountered.
For Rob, 30, and Trey Gentry, 27, it all began with a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada in October of 2002. Both had planned a weekend trip to Vegas with their friends – not knowing that many of their friends were actually the same people.
“I saw her coming down the jet-way and was like ‘alright, she’s coming on my flight…I get to meet her,’” Rob recalled.
Once inside the aircraft the ramp agent made sure he was sitting next to his sweetheart – actually, he was one seat in front her. Nonetheless, Rob made the most of it and began pouring his heart out in song.
Instead of singing face-forward, he was turned to the side singing to Trey. At 34,000 feet she decided it was enough and moved up one seat to join him. |

“Ever since that day we have been together every single day,” she said. “When we arrived in Vegas we spent all our time together and talked and talked and talked.”
A year later to the date and altitude Rob decided it was time to make their commitment official. He invited an aircraft full of friends to join him and Trey for another trip to Las Vegas. He asked the pilot to notify him when they reached 34,000 feet and when they did he proposed – in song of course.
“I was in shock. I didn’t know what to think,” Trey laughed. “I had no idea, but I was really, really happy.”
After what seemed like a huge pause to Rob, Trey finally agreed to marry him. Today, the couple has a one year old daughter and they say they are more in love than ever.
“I’m happy, I am really happy,” Rob confessed. “This is a whole new level of love, a whole new level of commitment that I am living.”
For Jennifer, 32, and Michael Sutton, 50, things were a little more straightforward. The couple was introduced by a mutual friend five years ago and they immediately began to develop a friendship.
They never really thought about each other romantically until the Academy of Country Music Awards brought them together. Michael was in Las Vegas attending the show on his own when a spur of the moment decision motivated him into inviting Jennifer to join him.
“I thought he was kidding when he told me he was in Las Vegas,” Jennifer remembered. “But I thought about it and decided to make the trip.”
After their glamorous first date the couple returned to their jobs at Hobby Airport and continued to get to know each other better.
“When I got back from that trip my mom was like ‘you are going to marry this guy,’” Jennifer said. “Mothers always know best.”
Not long after, Michael popped the question and the couple has now been married for three years. This is Michael’s second marriage; Jennifer’s first. They don’t have any kids, but they do have two dogs: Pepsi and B.J.
“He treats me like a woman. Nobody I have ever dated has treated the way he treats me,” she said. “His mama raised him right.”
Rob and Trey Gentry say the secret to love, for them, has been just not holding back.
“As long as you have unconditional love nothing else matters,” they said. “Embrace your love; no two loves are the same; this is our love and nobody can take it away.”
