2008 proved to be yet another incredible year at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in regards to the handling of air cargo.
For the fourth consecutive year, IAH was selected as the number one airport in the world for excellence in air cargo handling.
The recognition came from “Air Cargo World” magazine, a leading trade publication in the industry, as they once again asked their readers to evaluate the air cargo facilities of various airports around the globe.
The survey divided airports into sub-categories based on annual tonnage handled and then rated on performance, value, facilities and operations.
IAH stood out among those airports handling 499,000 tons or less of air cargo shipments annually and took the top honor for the fourth consecutive year.
More than 387,000 metric tons of air cargo passed through Houston’s airports in 2007, marking a 5.4 percent increase over the previous year’s totals.
“Bush Intercontinental is one of the fastest growing airports in the country for air cargo volume and is one of the fastest growing air cargo hubs in the U.S., with ample and uncongested airport facilities,” said Luis Aviles, HAS senior marketing specialist.
The Bush Intercontinental Airport Cargo Center provides more than 550,000 square feet of cargo space, establishes IAH as a major gateway for air cargo distribution capable of handling the demands of any importer, exporter or shipper.
With scheduled service around the world from 12 all-cargo airlines, Bush Intercontinental Airport has experienced a significant growth in international air cargo traffic in 2008. |
