The future is bright at Houston's Ellington Airport as the city's oldest aviation property received an overflow crowd during an Open House in October hosted by real estate brokerage firm, Colliers International. Ellington has a long history in the community and the focus on showcasing the airport's assets will help ensure that the future of Ellington will be as interesting as its past.
"Our mission is to do deals to create cash flow for Houston Airports through long-term leases and also generate one-time sources of revenue through sales," said Colliers International Principal, Michael Taetz. "On the west side of Ellington Airport there are about 100 acres of land that is what we call 'shovel ready,' which means that the sites are ready for construction because the infrastructure is in place."
The visitors to Ellington were given an update on plans that are underway to grow the community's utilization of the city-owned airport. Many of the Open House guests took advantage of the free helicopter rides, which offered the perfect bird's eye view of Ellington Airport. The event had an excellent turn out and drew more participants than organizers expected.
"We are giving people a chance to experience the re-branding of Ellington Airport. This is a 'coming out' celebration," said Taetz. "People came out because they were curious to see firsthand what was out here real estate-wise."
For private and corporate aviation users who want quick access from hangar to air - Ellington Airport offers an ideal setting since there is no congestion on the runways.
"There is no waiting to fly out of the airport and that is one of the things that we are going to promote," added Taetz. "Here at Ellington Airport, from the time you enter the gate and from the time your wheel is up is very, very quick. There is no waiting behind other aircrafts to take off. It is instant access to the runways for both arrivals and departures plus Ellington is only six miles past hobby."
Other opportunities are available for commercial developers. Colliers International is marketing the airport's large tracts of land that are close to interstate highways and offers easy access to Houston . |
