Houston’s airports continued to post strong numbers in September as the 3rd Quarter for 2008 drew down to a close.
The news was especially encouraging at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), where the total passenger count for the year marched ever closer to the seven-million mark (6,714,863).
Through September, the year-to-date numbers represent a 1.1 percent increase over last year’s totals. Domestic travel at George Bush Intercontinental Airport was also robust during the month of September, taking the year-to-date number over the 25 million mark (25,764,641).
But once again it was the numbers surrounding international traffic at IAH that truly stood out in the monthly summary.
The total international passenger count is now 4.1 percent ahead of last year’s number for January through September. So far this year, 6.1 million people have enjoyed international travel through IAH, while last year’s total through September were at 5.9 million.
The numbers from two airlines stood out as especially impressive.
Air Canada Jazz posted a 13 percent increase over last September’s passenger count, while United Airlines saw an increase during the same time period of almost 8 percent.
The robust numbers surrounding international travel touched each of the five recorded regions.
When evaluating the 2008 year-to-date numbers, increases were found in travel to Mexico, Central/South America, Europe, Asia/Africa/Australia and Canada. All five regions boast a year-to-date increase that ranges from .6 percent to a full 6 percent.
Continental Airlines’ international flights to Central and South America have done particularly well, with a year-to-date increase of 11.6 percent, while the airlines Canadian route system has also performed exceptionally well, posting a year-to-date increase of 5.5 percent.
