Hurricane Ike causes a reported $23 million worth of damages at Houston's airports. Hangars were destroyed, roads were flooded, trains in the airports were halted and essential personnel worked diligently to make sure the airports operated as smoothly as possible.

Bush Intercontinental Airport's Runway 9/27 Closed for Reconstruction
One of the 10,000 foot runways, 9/27, was closed on September 26th to allow for the reconstruction project. During the next few months, IAH will be rehabilitating the runway, rerouting all air traffic to the other four runways at IAH.
