It’s been 24 years since the airshow made its debut in Houston and it’s grown into one of the south’s largest airshows, making a home at Ellington Airport.
A production of the Commemorative Air Force, a non profit organization, the Ron Carter Wings Over Houston Airshow, set for Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26 will once again feature the world's elite air and space force - the United States Air Force Thunderbirds (USAF).
The USAF Thunderbirds continue to represent the best of the best and the team's breathtaking aerial maneuvers will defy the imagination as they exhibit the capabilities of modern, high performance aircraft and the high degree of professional skill required to operate those aircraft.
The airshow will also feature return acts such as amazing acrobatic performances by Sean D. Tucker and Team Oracle, Julie Clark in the Chevron Mentor T-34 and Dan Buchanan as well as numerous military and much more.
The airshow if one of the largest civic events in Metropolitan Houston and each year attendance is steadily increasing with expectations of exceeding 80,000 this year, partly because of the increased military presence at Ellington.
It also boasts the title of being an “International Airshow” with acts, spectators and media traveling from around the globe to attend from as far away as Australia, Japan, Scotland, the Netherlands, France, Germany, England and Latin America.
Along with numerous sponsors and over 2,000 volunteers, it takes a dedicated team at Ellington Airport, the stage for the large airshow, to get ready for an event this size.
“Including myself, there are only 30 employees here at Ellington Airport,” says Brian Rinehart, Ellington Airport manager. “It’s quite an extensive effort to get the airport ready for the number of people that come out to the see Wings Over Houston. We work closely with all of our tenants to make sure everything runs smoothly for those two important days in October.” |
