Continental Airlines, the world's fifth largest airline, today announced that it will launch a third daily non-stop flight between London's Heathrow Airport and its New York hub, Newark Liberty International Airport, on October 26, 2008 (westbound), subject to government approval and slot approval. On the same date, it will discontinue flights from Gatwick Airport to both New York and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, its largest hub.

From Heathrow, Continental will continue to operate two daily flights to Houston in addition to three daily flights to New York Liberty.

"Our focus on Heathrow is a response to the changing realities of the marketplace," said Jim Compton, Continental's Executive Vice President Marketing. "Our customers have shown a clear preference for Heathrow, and our main competitors have focused their operations there. We regret the need to end year-round operations at Gatwick, but it is imperative that we remain competitive and continue to meet the needs of our customers."

Continental's Heathrow flights will be operated using three aircraft types: the 285-seat Boeing 777-200, carrying 50 passengers in the BusinessFirst cabin and 235 in Economy; the 174-seat Boeing 767-200ER, with 25 BusinessFirst seats and 149 Economy seats; and the 175-seat Boeing 757-200, with 16 BusinessFirst seats and 159 Economy seats. Continental's Heathrow flights operate from Terminal 4.

Continental will continue to operate non-stop services to New York Liberty from Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester, as well as Dublin and Shannon - more cities in the U.K. and Ireland than any other trans-Atlantic airline.

In addition, Continental and Virgin Atlantic Airways codeshare on several Virgin Atlantic-operated flights from London/Heathrow and London/Gatwick.

Continental's U.K. reservations number is 0845 60 767 60. Customers can also book online at continental.com/uk.
